First Step in Being a Local

Lover's Point Park is located in Pacific Grove where apparently, according to my female roommate (still don't know her name), bragged about how many otters hang out there. Of course that has to be my next destination since I have a fascination for these adorable otters. I needed to include ny new favorite hobby of course to this adventure which is bike riding, so I pack the heavy mongoose in the back of my truck and drive the 30 minutes to Lover's Point. Feeling like a new local, I found free parking. This is an accomplishment because Monterey is very touristy location and the government jumped on charging for parking. Not only was I excited to see free parking, just ahead of my car were 15 brown wild geese hanging out on the side of the road. The geese act like nothing changed when my large Frontier inched closer to get a better view. The geese, now bored, started to cross the street. Only half were gutsy enough to walk to the right side of traffic and walk south down the road. Cars stopped and honked at the geese, while the geese, I am assuming they thought it appropriate, honked back. So I start taking my bike out of the truck when I notice the other half of scared geese unable to cross, were two feet away from me staring directly at me. I started walking my bike south towards the crosswalk and noticed the geese were still two feet away following me. Flashbacks of the movie Fly Away Home made this ten times funnier to me. After walking a block with my new gaggle of friends, I noticed the daredevil geese eating a nice patch of green grass. I decided to cross the street there since the non daredevils got excited to reunite with their gaggle. I rode my bike down to Lover's Point Park but to my dismay there wasn't an otter in sight. I can't really blame them in the 55 degree weather, but the squirrels did entertain me enough to stay a little longer. So Lover's Point Park wasn't a complete failure for I got to meet the locals (geese can be locals too) and I found my free beach side parking - next step - finding them otters!
