The morning wake up call

Those who don't know chipmunk this is a picture of him. About 7-8 years ago my Aunt Sharon gave chipmunk to my mother to take care of. My Aunt lived in Big Bear and her husband worked at the Vet Hospital and would constantly receive baby squirrels needing attention. Squirrels though tend to go berserk after they mature and can be let go in the wild. Chipmunks on the other hand can be tamed. My mom thought it was be fun to have a chipmunk and agreed in taking him home. I was excited for the new family member and would constantly take him out and play with him. I would close the bathroom door and let him run around on the floor. In the beginning he would constantly bite me in the beginning so I figured out a way to train him. He got "time out" when he would bite me when i tried to pick him up, which was chipmunk balled up in my hands and he couldn't come out till he squeaked nicely. It took 5 bites till he gave up. Once he was trained to hop on my shoulder when called, he got moved up to my room to explore. He would run around my room twice a week. He would pop out of a hiding place just to make sure I was still around. I knew when he was tired or ready to go back in his cage once he stopped checking up on me. I wound find him by a window or curled up behind a pillow. Once he stopped needing to be bottle fed by my mom, my mom told me chipmunk was mine. Chipmunk's original names were "Munk" "Chippers" and "Sammy" but by the end his name stayed "Chipmunk." The reason for this blog about chipmunk is what happened this morning. He lives in a ten gallon fish tank with a extended ramp area on top. He woke me up at 7am by running and trying to reach his water on top of his cage. I wake up upset by the noise but noticed him walking funny. He then falls off the ramp area into the fish tank. I remove the ramp area so i can pet chipmunk and make sure he is okay. He walked sideways and frustratingly tried removing cardboard away from his home. He seemed to have more difficultly then usual. I changed his water and food and he seemed more skiddish then usual as if he couldn't see very well. I have been watching him all day praying hoping this was a fluke and he was just tired. Chipmunk is one of my babies, I raised from the start and anyone one who knows me knows how attached I am to him. My favorite moments with him is taking a duck or cat on a stroll with chipmunk in my hood of my jacket poking his head out to check the scenery. If you are reading this and know chipmunk i would love to hear a memory you have of him, since this blog is meant for him and praying he is going to be alright.

  3. remember that time when you said he was tame and i was like, really? and you said yeah, he loves it when you wrestle him with your hand, try it. And so i was like, okay i'll try it and then i started screaming Oh my God he's trying to rip my hand off Oh my God this hurts so much, what the bleep is happening, why is this thing so evil? Then i sorta threw him part of the way across the room. good times.

Chippermonkey has had a good life and it's neat that he made it all the way to you moving out of the house. Gerbil made it all the way to me getting engaged. Hitting a big milestone with a loved pet is cool.
